Now available from Gravitron of Gloucester, England, is an electric race kart capable of speeds in excess of 100 mph, with acceleration from 0 – 60 mph in around 3.5 seconds.
Currently raced in southern Europe under FIA rules, these karts offer an exciting alternative to the traditional petrol versions, with all the associated environmental benefits of zero emissions and low noise from the vehicles.
After a test drive Stuart Ziemelis (three times World Karting Champion) gave his immediate reaction:
“The torque and control that you got from the throttle was amazing, very good. The acceleration was outstanding, the first time I put my foot on the throttle it brought a big grin to my face. You can do doughnuts with it, it just spins on a sixpence. It was awesome, really good.”
The kart uses Gravitron’s unique custom designed drive motor and programmable controller. The controller & programmer can work as a datalogger, providing the opportunity to analyse kart performance, battery usage etc.
The motor, which produces 37kW (50 hp) peak output, 1000 Amp controller and programmer are available to companies or individuals interested in building their own electric karts.
